NOAA Joins New Initiative to Increase Resilience to Climate Change

NOAA has joined four other federal agencies in a suite of landscape-scale partnerships in areas across the country. The Resilient Lands and Waters Initiative brings agencies and partners together to improve the resilience of natural resources to climate change and related challenges.
NOAA has already initiated on-the-ground conservation in four of the selected areas, through our Habitat Blueprint and other conservation efforts:

Russian River
West Hawaii
Great Lakes
Puget Sound

Building on existing collaborations, these partnerships will rely on an approach that addresses the needs of the entire landscape. They will reduce flood risk and improve water supply reliability, restore habitats, and inform coastal and ocean resource management efforts. They will also benefit the communities that depend upon natural systems for their own resilience.

Other partner agencies include the Department of the Interior, Department of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
